Winter olympic games villages
Grenoble 1968 - Turin 2006
Grenoble and Turin are both winter olympics host cities. Due to the growing participation and the considerable economic interests, the olympic games have become a global media and marketing event in modern society.
In contrast with the culture of spatial planning - which demands time, analysis and sharing - the olympics are extraordinary events which demand secure timeframe and with clear results. Projects are concentrated in a short period of time and depend for a great part on external funding. As a consequence, the olympics are drivers of important urban and infrastructural transformations.
This work consists of a comparative research on how the olympics has affected the cities of Grenoble in 1968 and Turin in 2006, focusing on the form and development of the athletes villages.Download
